Depression is a very complex disease. There is no single cause for depression. There are many factors that can trigger depression.

It is believed that depression is commonly caused by not just one factor but a combination of different factors.

Although the causes of depression has not been definitively identified and revealed, the two main factors that cause depression are biological and social.

Biological level, depression can be caused as a result of an unbalanced level of hormones in the brain, particularly serotonin. In this case, doctors often prescribe depression medications necessary to recover the balance of hormones.

At the social level, depression can occur due to objective difficulties such as unemployment, financial problems, and death of a loved one, loss of relationship or any other major trauma or stress. In this case, use of depression medication and psychotherapy is not mandatory is the preferred treatment.

Depression runs in families. If you have a family history of depression, which is more likely to get depression. But not everyone has the genetic composition for depression is depressed, it depends. Many people with no family history of depression may become depressed. Thus, genes are not the only cause of depression.

Those suffering from serious illness and experience a stressful life event tend to feel depressed. Difficult life events such as the parents divorce, separate, and death can lead to depression. Some people may become depressed for events like moving or changing schools.

Not getting along well with friends, colleagues and partners can cause depression. If a person's relationship with his partner break is likely to feel down, to stop seeing friends and family, and to start drinking more, all of which can make us feel worse, and trigger depression. Personality traits such as introversion, low self-esteem, pessimism, dependency and contribute to depression. Those with low self-esteem and a negative perspective are at risk of becoming depressed. People who feel they have no control over negative events are very likely to become depressed. For some adolescents, a negative, stressful, or unhappy family atmosphere can affect their self-esteem and lead to depression.

Loneliness and isolation can trigger depression. Depression rates are higher among people who live alone and have a limited social network. But even those surrounded by family and friends are at risk for depression if these relations are non-support.

Depression can be caused by serious medical conditions. Medical conditions may lead to physical weakness and stress, which are likely to lead to depression. Furthermore, depression can make medical conditions worse, because it weakens the immune system and can make pain difficult to bear.

Whatever its cause, depression is not just a state of mind. It is related to physical changes in the brain, and linked to an imbalance of a type of chemical that carries signals in your brain and nerves. To keep fit, you should avoid depression as possible as you can.
